Amaya – Episode 53 Recap

the news is true. Silay replies yes, it’s true; they then wonder who’ll be chosen, and think that Asinas will be Hilway’s successor. Hilway arrives, greets them, and announces that she actually hasn’t chosen anyone from the group since she hasn’t found anybody worthy. She has then decided to stay on as chief babaylan.

Back at Bugna’s old territory, Dal’lang tucks Binayaan as Agang arrives, calling her outside. Agang expresses her disbelief at what Binayaan was able to get away with; Dal’lang replies that’s why she’s proud of her daughter. As Dal’lang is about to step outside, they overhear Binayaan having a nightmare. Binayaan dreams about the day of the invasion again, with matching screaming…and calls out Amaya’s name before waking up.

Dal’lang then asks what happened, and why is she calling out a name. Binayaan asks which name – at which point Agang interjects, saying she’s calling out Amaya – leading Dal’lang to wonder why Binayaan is calling out her “own” name.

Back at the babaylan’s camp, Hilway asks if anyone objects to her decision. Asinas says that no one does, but Amaya speaks up, asking why she changed her mind. Hilway reiterates that it’s only because she still hasn’t found a worthy successor; instead, she will just name someone that she’ll train as the successor. And surprise surprise, it’s no one else but Amaya, whom Hilway has chosen because of one unique trait.

Another babaylan asks why she chose Amaya; the other babaylans complain that it’s unfair for them who had been babaylans for longer and have more experience. Amaya apologizes and say that she’s just as surprised – and Silay butts in, telling her to stop lying because she’s obviously happy with the decision. Hilway then shushes Silay, and reminds everyone that they have no right to object to this decision.

Binayaan lies that she can’t remember her dream; Dal’lang and Agang tell ther that it seems she called out the name Amaya as if she was referring to another person. Binayaan just tells them to forget about it and tries to go back to sleep.

We then check on Binayaan’s real mom, Lamitan, who is at her house with Mantal and Kayang. Lamitan asks Kayang why did she quickly leave Marikit in her room; Kayang replies that her lady is refusing to eat, and instead of forcing her, she just left to avoid incurring her wrath. Lamitan then dismisses her. Mantal then expresses her worry, but Lamitan brushes it off, saying that they won’t be able to force her and she’ll be back to normal soon. Silay then arrives, telling the duo that she has bad news about Amaya.

At Hilway’s house, Amaya confronts Hilwayoverherdecision.
